Why do some road bicycles take up 1/2 of of street in traffic?

And when you honk the horn to advise them that they are a total danger, they look at you like you have the problem.

Addition - all the while there is a perfectly safe bike path just 10 feet away!

Okay, I'll give them part of the road, that's cool. But some dorks like to push the envelope just way too far.
